"The ancient masters of the Talmud permitted themselves the freedom of carrying on a dialogue with teachers long departed: The past was present; it is present still."* Yesterday my chess students replayed a chess game that was 160 years old. They were able to do this becasue of the written recording and notation of the game. The written word can survive many, many years and be a record of a people. That is one reason the bible is an incredible testament to the faith of a chosen people.
A note on this game-This Game was played in London June 21, 1851: 160 years ago.
The game was played by Adolf Anderssen vs. Lionel Kieseritzky.
